Tech Lead
Tech Lead
Role overview
As Tech Lead, you will lead an engineering vertical building real-time logistics and transactional systems. You will organize sprints, translate priorities into clear tasks, and support a small development team while remaining hands-on and shipping production code.
You will be the bridge between developers and executive leaders across other functions, communicating priorities, technical trade-offs, and delivery timelines. Your scope includes location tracking, carrier matching, event-driven services, and payment integrations. You will establish code review standards, implement proactive monitoring, and take ownership of the vertical’s technical roadmap.
Requirements
* Experience leading a small engineering team while actively writing, reviewing, and shipping production code.
* Experience building logistics or operational systems, preferably in a startup environment.
* Strong backend engineering skills, including database design, API integrations, debugging, and production reliability.
* Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and PostGIS for geofencing, route geometry, and location-aware queries.
* Hands-on experience with Redis Geo for real-time location tracking and proximity matching.
* Experience with Kafka or an equivalent event platform, including reliable event processing and safeguards against duplicate payment processing.
* Experience with AWS or GCP, Docker, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines.
* Experience integrating card and bank payments and Open Banking APIs, such as Plaid, Belvo, or TrueLayer.
* Experience implementing monitoring and alerting using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
* Ability to break down business priorities into scoped tasks, provide reliable estimates, and manage delivery.
* Fluent English and the ability to explain technical decisions clearly to nontechnical stakeholders.
Responsibilities
* Lead the engineering vertical, establish a consistent sprint cadence, and break down work into actionable tasks.
* Write, review, and ship production code regularly, leading by example.
* Mentor developers and establish clear standards for code quality, testing, and technical reviews.
* Partner with executive leaders across other functions to align priorities, scope, dependencies, and timelines.
* Build and maintain geospatial capabilities for location tracking, geofencing, route geometry, and carrier matching.
* Develop reliable event-driven services that process load and location events and prevent duplicate transaction processing.
* Build and maintain payment and payout integrations with reliable transaction handling.
* Implement monitoring and alerting that help the team identify and resolve issues before they affect users.
* Own the vertical’s technical roadmap, balancing business priorities, reliability, and maintainability.
Ideal profile
* Earns the team’s trust through technical judgment, clear communication, and hands-on contribution.
* Has led a small team while continuing to ship code, ideally in systems where bugs have direct financial consequences, such as payments, lending, or payouts.
* Has worked in a startup with a strong engineering culture, ideally in logistics or operations.
* Takes ownership of delivery and follows through on commitments.
* Connects technical decisions to business and operational needs.
* Preferably based in Brazil.
Preferred skills
* Real-time fraud scoring with response times under 100 milliseconds.
* Alternative credit modeling.
* Kafka Streams or Faust.
* Familiarity with PCI-DSS and SOC 2.
* Kubernetes.
First 90 days
* By day 30: Establish a fixed sprint cadence and ship your own code to production.
* By day 60: Provide estimates that other functions can rely on, with code review standards and proactive alerting in place.
* By day 90: Own the vertical’s roadmap and deliver a written plan for the next two quarters.
